In my particular case, VirtualBox Network Adapter 1 (USB) ended up mapping to Guardian em1 and Network Adapter 2 (built-in NIC) to em0. Typical desktops only have one Ethernet adapter, so an easy way to add a second adapter is via USB. On my Windows 10 VirtualBox host, I use an inexpensive USB-to-Ethernet adapter and on my MacOS Fusion host, I use a Thunderbolt 2-to-Ethernet adapter. Both work great as Guardian em1 monitoring interfaces. If you want SPAN network traffic to Guardian CE (I use an inexpensive NetGear GS305E switch for port mirroring), then you will need two network adapters on your host – one for managing the Guardian (em0) and one for monitoring traffic (em1). This brief article will walk you through the network configuration steps required to get Guardian CE up and running and ready for your evaluation. VMware Fusion Player is available Free for Personal Use, but a License can be purchased for Commercial Use using this. Designed for power users, developers and IT professions to get the most from their desktop hypervisor. If you want to take Nozomi Guardian Community Edition (CE) for a test drive, one of the easiest ways to accomplish this is by using a desktop virtualization platform like Oracle VirtualBox or VMware Fusion. Both of these products are available free for personal use or for a trial license period. Built by developers, for developers, VMware Fusion Pro is in a class above the rest.
